Everything's measured in metric, so here are the figures in real money:

Esme's now been for a second session with Pete Baldwin at Wilsher's Garages near Cambridge. No printout as Pete does it the good old fashioned way with analogue power meters. Here are the figures : 98bhp @ 5500rpm... much nicer torque curve and power delivery...

Ooops... On my way from Southend last night (03/11/2003) came off the A127, accelerating onto the A130, hit 6000 rpm (rev limit at 7000), changed into second and then.... clatter, clatter, clatter.... bugger! Turns out that the Anti run-on valve had failed OPEN and dumped almost pure air into pistons 3 & 4... no 3 failed completely, and on inspection no. 4 had a crack across the crown and down the skirt.

Found the problem - big hole in piston no 3!

Well, the rebuild is progressing nicely, it's all assembled now, just got to put it back in the car!

Engine is now back in and has completed another six months of road use as well as a further five trackdays, the only problems being a blown head gasket while on circuit at Snetterton...
